Richard Gill, farmer, was born in Gallatin County in 1835, the son ofHenry and Caroline (Thompson) Gill. The father, of Dutch-Irishancestry, was born in Indiana in 1810, a son of David Gill, a nativeof Pennsylvania. Moving with his father to Gallatin County, Henry soonmarried, in about 1828, and spent the rest of his life as a farmer. Hedied in 1866. The mother, still living, was born in Gallatin County in1814. Both were members of the Baptist Church. Our subject received acommon school education, and in 1858 married Mrs. Julia F. Thompson,daughter of Conrad and Luna Wagor, and born in New York in 1827. Mr.Gill has since lived on his present fine farm of 160 acres, threemiles from Shawneetown. Always a Democrat, he cast his first vote forJames Buchanan.
