Merrill died from the flu epidemic of 1918. He was known for his hardwork and was quite popular with everyone. In the fall of 1918, he anda friend went to work on a farm east of Sioux City, IA. On Friday, Oct25, Merrill shucked 35 bushels of corn. That night, he checked into aSioux City hospital. He was there a week before Frank arrived onSaturday, Nov 2. Lela and Zelda came on Tuesday, Nov 5. Merrill diedat 4:10 PM, Thursday, Nov 7 1918.
