From Footprints on the Sands of Time: A History of SouthwesternVirginia and Northwestern Carolina by Dr. A. B. Cox, published Aug.1900 :
Isom Cox--who married Miss Jincey Phipps, an accomplished, intelligentlady, an ornament to her home, and a blessing to her family--was oneof Grayson County's best citizens and largest farmers. He owned theland where Bridle Creek academy and church are located. Isom Cox didmuch for church and state. He was ever ready to assist in any laudableenterprise for the good of society. He and his faithful wife weremembers of the Methodist Church South. Their example was a pricelessheritage to their children. The children have honored their parents byfollowing both precept and example. Their only two sons, Haywood andJoseph fell in the Confederate army. Nobler young men and bettersoldiers never honored an army or country.
